Lockdown Sees Crime Rates Plummet

Provisional figures released today show that police recorded crime from all 43 territorial police forces in England and Wales has fallen overall by 25% cent for the four weeks to May 10, compared to the same period in 2019. (NPCC)

In news that will be welcomed by homeowners and tenants alike, lockdown appears to be having a noticeable effect on crime rates.

As people are confined to their homes under a nationwide lockdown, Police forces across the country have recorded sustained falls in crime with regards to a litany of offences, most notably residential burglary and vehicle crime (including theft of and from a vehicle).

Commenting on the figures, National Police Chiefs’ Council Lead for Crime Operations, Chief Constable Andy Cooke said:

“These figures are not a surprise, as the public have largely stayed home during the lockdown period. Forces use any spare capacity they have during lockdown to focus on proactively pursuing criminals, completing complex investigations and reducing violence.”

“As measures ease, we will bear down crime and do all we can to try and prevent it rising to pre-lockdown highs.”

Lincoln Security have been operating throughout lockdown offering a reduced service for our key commercial customers and have noticed a significant reduction in the amount of break in related call outs for residential customers, however commercial premises have unfortunately been targeted by criminals whilst staff have been away from the office.

Jason Healy, Lincoln Security’s Commercial Director said: “A reduction in crime is welcome news for people during lockdown. As people gradually start to return to work what we need to guard against is a resurgence of crime. Historically, during summer, criminals target expensive garden furniture and items in sheds and outbuildings. So, we urge people to ensure that their expensive garden items are secured.”

To help you keep your garden and property secure this summer, Lincoln Security currently have a Summer Security Pack on offer which includes a Weather Resistant Padlock, Security Cable with Hoops & a High Security Wall/ Ground anchor to help you secure your garden, for £49.99.

If you don’t have a garden or would like to secure your front door with the ABS Anti Snap 3* Diamond Sold Secure front door cylinder is now on sale for £40.  For more information on anti-snap cylinders and what lock snapping is click here
