The Mariners inspire local business leaders at Greater Grimsby Series showcase

Grimsby Town Football Club’s Chair and CEO have been speaking to more than 60 local business leaders to help inspire, encourage, and share advice on supporting the community.

Jason Stockwood and Debbie Cook, the Chair and CEO of Grimsby Town FC, spoke to businesses at the second Greater Grimsby Series event, organised and hosted by Wilkin Chapman.

The Greater Grimsby Series brings together local business leaders to provide a platform for projects and ventures, showcasing the fantastic work being done to support the sustainable regeneration of the town and surrounding areas.

Jason and Debbie shared their personal experiences of running Grimsby’s beloved football club and particularly highlighted the work that the club is doing in the local community. This includes the work of the club’s charitable arm, the Grimsby Town Foundation, and its Girls’ Emerging Talent Centre, in addition to the mygrimsby Fund and the Community Partnership Fund, which is financially backed by local company 3Q Industrial Supplies.

Adam Ottley, partner in the Grimsby corporate and commercial team at Wilkin Chapman, said:

“If you are looking for an example of a business that goes out of its way to have a positive impact on Grimsby and the local area, you needn’t look further than Blundell Park and the team at Grimsby Town for their community projects. From supporting grassroots girls’ football and giving free match tickets to families from deprived areas to improving the health of the River Freshney and helping people donate warm clothing to those in need, the club is in many ways the bedrock of the local community in Grimsby.

“At Wilkin Chapman, we’re committed to doing what we can to support Grimsby and the wider region. Our Greater Grimsby Series gives us a powerful platform to inspire and engage the wider business community so that we can all make a bigger, positive impact.

“Jason and Debbie have amazing personal stories and spearhead great community work through the club. I’m sure that everyone who attended the event was left thoroughly energised and eager to help bring about change in their own way.”

Jason Stockwood grew up in Grimsby and went on to be the driving force behind brands such as lastminute.com and match.com. Originally from Derby, Debbie Cook was previously the CEO of a national health charity, as well as the YMCA Humber, and she also worked in local government for 22 years.

Jason and Debbie shared their backgrounds and experiences of running the Mariners and outlined the work the club is doing in the local area. They encouraged attendees to also support their local community as much as they were able to and offered more opportunities for doing so through the club’s endeavours.

Chair of Grimsby Town Football Club, Jason Stockwood said:

“It was great to be able to talk to business leaders about the work of the football club. In addition to success on the pitch, we also want the club to be at the heart of the community, well-placed to undertake work to support the town’s community. Any business wanting to support the work of the Grimsby Town Foundation can come and talk to us – we support disability football, girls’ football, families needing a warm space and so much more”.

The Greater Grimsby Series is organised and hosted by Grimsby-based Wilkin Chapman, the leading law firm in Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire.

“Match Day” menu and refreshments were provided by The Lincolnshire Chef, Healing Manor and Docks Beers.
