Spectacular turnout as Lincolnshire Show celebrates agriculture, star appearances and record-breaking community achievements

The Lincolnshire Show returned last week with spectacular success, welcoming around 62,000 visitors to the Lincolnshire Showground for two unforgettable days of farming, food, family fun and community celebration.  The flagship event, proudly hosted by the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society (LAS), firmly cemented its position as the beating heart of the county's rural calendar, and agriculture remained front and centre, with packed livestock sheds showcasing the very best of British farming.  The livestock sections saw a tremendous surge in entries; the sheep section was completely full with over 650 entries and the pig section grew by 50%, requiring organisers to extend the showing ring to accommodate the massive turnout. History was made in the dairy cattle lines as the new-for-this-year breed, the Ayrshire, took home the coveted Supreme Interbreed Champion title. Over in the bursting beef cattle shed, the Charolais, British Blonde and Simmental sections held their own with incredible displays, alongside the prestigious Lincoln Red National Show, where a Lincoln Red was triumphantly crowned Supreme Interbreed Champion. The equestrian side of the event was equally vibrant, with over 1,500 horses on site across the two days competing in everything from high-stakes Show Jumping to prestigious Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) Showing Qualifiers. The traditional Farriers Competition also saw immense success, operating at full capacity with over 50 entries. This year’s event masterfully balanced deep agricultural roots with commercial appeal, drawing high praise from celebrity guest, Kelvin Fletcher, on Thursday 18th.  Reflecting on his visit, the actor and farmer said: "This is the best. The way this is laid out feels like an agricultural show. It's got to be a commercial endeavour and really celebrate agriculture, but the balance and layout is absolutely spot on." Families and fans were also treated to star-studded entertainment elsewhere on the Showground. Pop star turned farmer, JB Gill, delighted crowds with an exclusive book signing on the newly popular Rural Voices stage on Wednesday 17th.  Meanwhile, the Main Ring hosted the thrilling debut of Dart Polo, drawing massive crowds with its fast-paced adrenaline, while the new Pony Club Ring proved a massive hit, keeping spectators captivated with a jam-packed timetable across both days.  Elsewhere in the Main Ring, a Guinness World Record was set on Wednesday 17th, as three people raced against the clock to assemble and engage a combine harvester header. Jacob Copley is now the record holder after completing the challenge in just one minute and 26 seconds.  Feeding the LAS Members’ was a monumental logistical success, handled expertly by Saffron Outside Catering. The team served up 1,700 high-quality meals across the Members' Restaurant, Carvery Restaurant and the President’s Marquee, satisfying hungry guests with 500 breakfasts, 600 carveries and 400 dinners. Crucially, the event’s educational mission broke all previous records. The LAS Schools’ Challenge competition saw its highest numbers to date, with an incredible 72 schools and 5,605 students taking part.  Highlighting the deep, real-world impact of the initiative, a representative from Queen Eleanor Primary School shared a moving testament to the project's power: “We had a child exhibiting ARNA (Anxiety-Related Non-Attendance) but through the project, he has returned to school. The children have enjoyed their market research and have gained valuable public speaking skills.” Organisers have expressed their immense gratitude to all the volunteers, Stewards, exhibitors and visitors who made this year's Lincolnshire Show a resounding triumph, safely securing its legacy for generations to come.
