Ongo purchase over 100 new homes in Lincoln

Ongo has purchased a total of 111 homes on an estate in the centre of Lincoln, to join their affordable rent, shared ownership and leaseholder tenants.

The original landlord, London based Metropolitan Thames Valley Homes put these homes up for sale last year. After careful consideration involving a competitive tender process, they felt Ongo were the right housing association to take on these homes.

The sale completed on 20 September, with Ongo officially announcing that they are the new, proud landlord to those tenants in Lincoln.

There has been a lot of work happening in the background over the last few months to get everything in place to ensure the change of landlord was a simple, stress free experience for the tenants living there.

Steve Hepworth, Chief Executive at Ongo said: “We made a commitment in 2019 that we would build 225 new homes every year for the next 10 years, and purchasing 111 already built and let homes gives us a real boost in meeting this target.

“The Lincoln area is somewhere we already have homes, so it makes sense for us to grow our portfolio in that region, with us already having homes in Blyton, Kirton Lindsey, Gainsborough, Nettleham and North Hykeham.

“These homes are modern and in great condition, with mixed tenures of affordable rent, shared ownership and leaseholders, just 10 minutes from the centre of Lincoln. So I can’t see that these would be a problem to let in future.

“It is highly unlikely that an opportunity to increase the number of homes we own by over 100 without building a large site, so we had to give it our best shot and put ourselves forward with a bid.

“It also increases our portfolio of shared ownership homes, meaning we will be supporting more people to get on the property ladder which is a real positive for us.

“We are excited to welcome new tenants into the Ongo family, and cannot wait to meet them.”

Ongo currently has over 10,000 homes, and an ambitious plan to build more than 2,000 by 2031.
