Read MoreOngo is set to launch a new decorating and carpeting project for new tenants, after investing £190,000 to reduce cost, improve decor, tackle noise nuisance, and adopt a more environmentally friendly approach.
The pilot, which will launch next month until March 2025, will include all house types across the region, with the aim of providing carpets to 125 people and painting in 40 homes.
Currently Ongo dispose of carpets when a tenant leaves a property. However, a key part of this work will be to keep suitable, existing carpets and lay new ones.
It is hoped this will reduce noise, especially in flats, limit waste and create cost savings for those moving in.
The re-decorating of homes most in need will also be offered. A new painting team has been recruited to carry this work out, along with a new learning initiative.
The team will paint rooms in the property and, where possible, provide the skills and equipment to enable tenants to complete further work themselves, teaching them valuable skills and experience.
Tenants taking up the offer will be provided with employment, training and mental health support, and the opportunity to apply for a further grant to help with purchasing items such as white goods, furniture, and other personal and household items.
Andy McFadden, Improving Lives Coordinator at Ongo said: “This is a great opportunity to really make a difference and improve the properties for new tenants, giving them a great help and head start.
“I am keen to get started and we have already recruited a painter and a painting apprentice to join the team.
“The project will not only improve homes but provide hands-on skills that will support our tenants in the future and help them to create successful and long-lasting tenancies.”
