Over the last year, Ongo has received a total of £1.22 million to carry out community projects, benefitting around 1,700 local people in the region to access support, advice and training.
Along with Ongo funded projects, there are a number that rely on external funding, with around twelve benefitting from this in the last year.
Each project varies, with initiatives to help young people raise their aspirations, training and support to get into employment for all ages, mental health services, business start-up advice, youth activities, volunteering opportunities and various community centres, to name a few.
Just some of the projects benefitting from external funding include:
Looking up: This is funded through Department of Work and Pensions and focuses on aiding jobseekers, who are struggling with their mental, to move them closer to employment. The team support around 90 clients each year.
Building Better Opportunities (BBO) Humber and Move: More than 40 clients are helped each year, who lack the skills and confidence to get back into work through this project. The National Lottery Community Fund and the European Social Fund have recently extended its grant.
Safer streets: In February 2020, Ongo were awarded over half a million pounds by The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) to design out acquisitive crime in Westcliff, Scunthorpe. This has seen huge improvements.
Tesco bags for help: £1,000 was awarded to Ongo to deliver adult wellbeing activities at the Arc community centre in Westcliff.
Awards for all: £7,460 was awarded to deliver young people’s activities across Barton and Westcliff, to purchase resources and provide healthy snacks for 12 months.
Ongo Talk: This is funded by the Community Led Local Development (CLLD) fund and provides one to one counselling, training, life coaching and support for people struggling with their mental health. More than 150 people have been supported through the project since January 2020 and the number grows daily.
Empower: More than £32,000 of funding has been awarded to this project to support the prevention of re-offending, offering guidance and direction on each individual’s journey to work.

“We support hundreds into employment each year and even more to change their lives for the better. It’s fantastic to know that what we do really makes a difference, and all of this wouldn’t be possible without the extra funding we receive, and the hard work and dedication of the team.
“Now restrictions are lifting we’re looking forward to seeing people in person again, and we can’t wait to support even more people this year.”
