Get ready to experience the spirit of 1940s Britain with two days of vintage performances, activities and classic vehicle displays in Lincoln’s historic Cathedral Quarter and across the city. The event has become a popular, free, regular attraction in the city’s summer events calendar and is not to be missed!

With a packed schedule of entertainment on throughout the weekend, including live music, singing and dancing, local craft markets. Lincoln will be full of atmosphere and tastefully decorated with our patriotic bunting for our biggest 1940s celebration yet.

Visitors and locals alike are invited to step back in time with what’s promising to be two days of fabulous fun.

A range of exciting events located all around Lincoln are due to take place, such as:

  • Live 1940s music and dance
  • Food and drink in the local businesses
  • Craft markets
  • Family activities and pop-up street theatre
  • Vintage Fairground (including a carousel and children’s swing boats!)

  • Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast by a Lancaster Bomber* Weather permitting

A fantastic addition this year is a confirmed Lancaster bomber flyover which will take place on Sunday 23rd July, everyone is encouraged to keep their eyes on the sky and listen out for this impressive historical plane!

The main hub of the event will take place in the historic Bailgate and Uphill area of Lincoln, but make sure to look out for other pop-up activities across the city to compliment the weekend – visitors can even get their hair styled to be a classic 1940’s hairdo! This year we are pleased to announce that some of the event activities will also be taking place within the impressive castle grounds.

Some of the acts set to perform include the ever-popular Lincolnshire Lindy Hop Clubs, Johnny Victory, Miss Lily Lovejoy, May Blossom and many more. This year will also see the return of the well-loved Winston Churchill, portrayed by Derek Herbert.

Lee Roberts, Head of Operations at Lincoln BIG commented “Lincoln’s 1940s weekend was one of Lincoln BIG’s most popular events last year, welcoming tens of thousands of visitors to the city.

We are delighted to bring the event back with more attractions, such as vintage games, street theatre and musical performances at the band stand. It’s also great to see more local businesses getting involved and offering visitors unique experiences such as traditional Afternoon Tea and dressing their windows.

Everyone is encouraged to come in period dress to add to the family friendly atmosphere with prizes on offer to the best dresses visitors as well as best dressed business!”

The 1940’s Weekend runs from July 22nd to July 23rd, 10am – 5pm. The event is organised and funded by Lincoln BIG.
