Industry Roundtable & Site Visit at Fairman Knight & Sons

Join the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce for an exclusive member event hosted by Fairman Knight & Sons (FKS), the UK’s first fully operational insect farming and biotechnology facility, based in Holbeach.

The event will begin with a focused roundtable discussion, followed by an introduction to FKS from Founder and CEO Julian Knight, who will provide an overview of the business, its innovative circular economy model, and the partnerships supporting its continued growth.

Guests will then enjoy a guided tour of the facility, offering a unique opportunity to see first-hand how unavoidable food surplus is transformed into high-value products that support UK agriculture, horticulture and animal nutrition.

Based in the UK Food Valley (Holbeach), FKS is using black soldier fly biology to transform roughly 40,000 tonnes of local food waste each year into high-value products, including insect protein for animal and pet nutrition, bio-oil, and frass and biopolymers such as chitin for soil health and other applications.

Built on proven industrial systems and guided by leading entomology expertise, FKS is already positively impacting the wider industry by proving that a scalable route to making “circular” practical exists; taking unavoidable food surplus and converting it into products that support farming and horticulture, with transparency and traceability built into operations.

Crucially, the company is helping professionalise an emerging sector. Operating to food-grade standards in controlled environments, regulated by the Food Standards Agency and APHA, with regular Trading Standards visits, full traceability, and continuous validation, FKS is setting a benchmark for credible, adoptable innovation, the kind that major supply chains can trust.

Working with such national bodies, Fairman Knight & Sons is working to empower the Government to align UK Insect Feed regulations with Europe with much more confidence. FKS is also committed to sponsoring higher education research projects and has a multi-PhD relationship with the University of Leeds.

This special event will also welcome representatives from the British Chambers of Commerce, bringing together businesses and stakeholders to discuss the future of Lincolnshire’s fresh produce sector, the challenges and opportunities facing the industry, and the importance of strengthening regional supply chains.

Shevaun Haviland CBE, Director General, British Chambers of Commerce

Director General of British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) since April 2021, Shevaun was formerly Head of Business Engagement at Number 10 Downing Street and was at the heart of Government in the Cabinet Office as Head of the Inclusive Economy Partnership.
