Duncan & Toplis shortlisted in the Rural Business Awards 2020

East Midlands-based chartered accountants and business advisers, Duncan & Toplis is in the running to be named one of the best rural businesses in the UK, after being shortlisted in the Best Rural Professional Services Business category of this year’s Rural Business Awards.

Duncan & Toplis’ agricultural team has made it through to the 2020/21 national finals for exceptional client support on succession planning, diversification and asset protection during a uniquely challenging few years for the farming sector.

The team will be competing for the top prize against rural companies, entrepreneurs and enterprises in the online event – sponsored by Amazon – on February 25th 2021.

Speaking after being shortlisted, Mark Chatterton, head of agriculture at Duncan & Toplis, said:

“It’s a great honour to be shortlisted for our work with the rural community. We work closely with rural businesses to offer a wide range of support and services that helps them to succeed with their own goals and ambitions; to grow, realise their potential and overcome any challenges they face.

“Our rural clients are up against a range of unique challenges, particularly family owned businesses. We’re well placed to offer the support they need as our team is highly experienced, helping many rural businesses thrive over the years.

“This level of service can be crucial for their survival and success – which in turn helps to support the wider rural economy and the local community, so we’re proud for our work to be recognised.

“Thank you to The Rural Business Awards for our nomination, and good luck to all the finalists!”

Since Duncan & Toplis was founded in 1925, it has been a champion of rural organisations, with some companies having been clients through four or more generations of family ownership.

Duncan & Toplis has 11 offices across Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, which has positioned expert advisers to work with farms and agricultural clients throughout the region.

The specialist agricultural team provides farming clients with the services they need to grow and thrive. The Duncan & Toplis group also provides personal finance and pension advice, alongside payroll, HR, IT and legal support.

The Rural Business Awards 2020/21, in partnership with Amazon, will mark the awards’ sixth year of celebrating the success of businesses across the UK’s rural economy. The awards aim to celebrate the achievements of rural businesses and develop a strong network for rural business owners.

Jemma Clifford, director and co-founder of The Rural Business Awards, said: “This year has been an unprecedented challenge for businesses across the country but we have still had a fantastic amount of entries, showing the true determination of people working in the rural economy.

“Here at the Rural Business Awards, we remain committed to our vision of showcasing the fantastic work of rural businesses and believe that it has never been more important than now. On behalf of the RBA team, we want to say well done to Duncan & Toplis, and all the shortlisted businesses, and wish them luck ahead of the national final.”

The Rural Business Awards is the brainchild of Leicestershire businesswomen Anna Price and Jemma Clifford, who wanted to showcase the wealth of entrepreneurial talent in rural areas of Britain.

The Awards are organised by rural business for rural business, with winners in the 13 categories – ranging from Best Rural Start-up and Best Rural Diversification Project, through to Best Rural Professional Services Business and Best Rural Innovation – decided by an independent panel of judges drawn from the rural business sector, rural public sector agencies, and rural charitable organisations.

The winners will be announced online at the national final on Thursday 25th February 2021.
