A Christmas Message From Chief Executive Simon Beardsley

A Christmas Message From Chief Executive Simon Beardsley

Dear all,

It is fair to say this year is one nobody will ever forget! It has been a year full of challenges, and nobody has been left unaffected by the COVID-19 pandemic – in business, as well as on a personal level.

Lincolnshire businesses were forced to change their way of working, with many starting to work from home for the first time, and those remaining on business premises having to adhere to strict safety measures to keep themselves, their colleagues, customers and visitors safe.

There was a lot to consider and organise in a short space of time, and organisations had to adapt very quickly to this “new normal”, for which we commend you all.

Throughout all this, we have seen communities come together to support fellow businesses and help those in need.

Earlier in the year we celebrated these unsung heroes through our Lincolnshire Business Heroes initiative and also the Lockdown Hero Awards.

Here at the Chamber, our team have been working hard supporting our members via our website, social media, newsletters, catch-up phone calls, events, and other mediums to stay in touch and deliver to you the practical advice needed to get through these tough times.

As part of the Chamber Network, we have lobbied to the government for clarity on their financial support schemes and economic plans. This has resulted in some fantastic achievements, which is a win for the Chamber network and all businesses – those within Lincolnshire, as well as the rest of the UK.

It is important to look to the future, while this year has been more than difficult for many, there is a lot to be optimistic about for 2021 and our lobbying work will of course continue, ensuring businesses continue to get the support that is required in order to restart, rebuild and renew.

With the vaccination roll-out comes the hope for a return to what we fondly remember as “normal”, including handshakes while we network and attending events with a fearless enjoyment of each other’s company, but the impact of this will take time, meaning cash flow support, campaigning for businesses to remain open and trading safely will be paramount.

As well as the impending UK exit from the European Union, finer details remain uncertain and we will continue to fight for clear, concise and detailed information needed for businesses to navigate these changes.

As the end of 2020 approaches, on behalf of myself and the team, have a great break over this holiday season and we look forward to working with you all again in 2021.

Please remember that your Chamber is here for you – through the good times, and the bad, we are indeed #StrongerTogether.
