Adam’s story of art and independence

Adam lives in one of Ongo’s specially adapted homes, designed for people with disabilities and learning difficulties.   Living with autism and receiving 24-hour care, it’s the first home Adam’s ever had all to himself, and it allows him to live as independently as possible whilst exploring his artistry.   Before moving in, Adam faced many challenges, including bullying and social exclusion. But here, he’s found a sanctuary. “Artwork escapes bullying and repression,” Adam says. “I draw when I get upset”.   Drawing has been a lifelong passion, one lovingly passed down by his mum. Though he sadly lost her, Adam continues to honour her memory through his art.   Over the years, he’s built an entire world through his drawings, a vivid universe filled with characters that follow unique storylines, each one a reflection of his imagination and resilience. These characters aren’t just sketches, they’re companions in his journey, each telling a story of hope, adventure, and overcoming adversity.   His creativity doesn’t stop at drawing. Adam is a master storyteller, a guitar player, and someone who brings joy to others through his talents.   Adam is also a social butterfly. He loves getting out and about, whether it’s heading to the pub for a pint, enjoying days out at theme parks, or attending the Whitby Goth Weekend. Living in Lincolnshire suits him well, with its beautiful walking spots and sights to see.   Through his art, Adam has found not only a voice, but a vibrant world of his own.
