With 40 years of experience in international trade and logistics, Sara Hutchinson knows how rewarding growing a business overseas can be and recognises the challenges businesses face when exporting and importing. Through her two businesses, RISA (UK) Limited and Hutchinson International Trade Limited, she brings together the practical experience of moving goods around the world with training and guidance that help businesses know what they need to do to get it right. Sara makes importing and exporting easier to understand and manage. She cares about helping businesses avoid mistakes that cost time, money, and customer relationships, giving them the knowledge and confidence to explore new markets and grow.
25 YEARS. We’ve survived, adapted, learned – and still love what we do!
At the beginning of October RISA (UK) Limited celebrated its 25th birthday.
Hear from Managing Director Sara Hutchinson as she reflects on our journey so far.
When I started the business in 2001, I couldn’t have imagined everything the next quarter of a century would bring.
There have been incredible highs – and our fair share of lows!
We’ve won awards, built client relationships lasting decades, moved goods across the world and solved more logistics problems than I could ever count.
But without question, the last six years have been some of the toughest.
Covid. Brexit. Conflict in the Middle East. Geopolitical tensions. Shipping disruption. Escalating costs. Constant changes to customs and international trade regulations.
Running a business through all of this has taught me some important lessons:
– Adapt. What worked yesterday won’t necessarily work tomorrow.
-Stay agile. Be prepared to change direction.
-Look after your cashflow. Profit doesn’t keep a business alive – cash in the bank does!
-Surround yourself with good people and trusted partners.
-Above everything else, look after your customers.
-Technology has changed. International trade has changed. The world has changed.
But one thing hasn’t changed at RISA:
Our commitment to giving our clients great service and getting their goods where they need to be.
Has it always been easy? Definitely not! Would I do it all again? Absolutely!
I still love what I do and get up every morning wondering what international trade and logistics will throw at us next.
So this month I’m celebrating 25 years of adapting, learning, problem-solving, relationships, resilience, and a lot of hard work.
To our clients, suppliers, partners, and everyone who has worked with RISA over the years – thank you.
You’ve all played a part in our story.
Here’s to the next chapter.
25 years – and still Great with Freight.
