Ongo awarded highest level environmental accreditation

Ongo is proud to announce it has been awarded the SHIFT Gold accreditation, a significant step up from its previous Silver rating, in recognition of its outstanding environmental performance and commitment to sustainability.

The SHIFT (Sustainable Homes Index For Tomorrow) assessment, the UK’s leading environmental benchmark for the housing sector, awarded Ongo a score of 64.37%, placing the organisation 3rd out of the 40 most recent assessments.

This is a huge sector wide achievement, showing Ongo’s investment in sustainable housing, operations, and community engagement.

“We’re thrilled to have achieved Gold SHIFT accreditation,” said Andrea Morley, Sustainability Manager at Ongo. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work of our teams and our commitment to creating a greener, more sustainable future for our residents and communities.”

Key highlights from Ongo’s 2025 SHIFT report include:

Energy efficiency: 86.02% of Ongo homes are EPC C or above, with an average SAP rating of 73.84, a strong performance compared to peers.

Resident engagement: Ongo actively engaged with 42.64% of residents on energy efficiency.

Climate resilience: 98.5% of homes are at low risk of overheating, and 83.33% are resilient to flood risk, supported by robust business continuity plans.

Sustainable new builds: 44.23% of new homes achieved EPC A, and 100% used responsibly sourced materials.

Waste management: 100% of office waste and 89.09% of refurbishment waste was diverted from landfill.

Biodiversity: Ongo’s homes supports 750 tonnes of above-ground biomass, with plans to enhance biodiversity further by 2043.

The SHIFT report also praised Ongo’s Net Zero and Environmental Action Plan, which outlines clear, measurable targets, including achieving EPC C for all homes by 2029 and launching biodiversity enhancement projects in 2025.

“This Gold accreditation is not the finish line, it’s a milestone on our journey,” added Andrea. “We’ll continue to push forward, guided by data, driven by purpose, and inspired by the communities we serve.”
