Supporting people one step at a time – Ongo hosts a wellbeing walk for all

Ongo is hosting a wellbeing walk for all at Ashby Ville, Scunthorpe on Wednesday 18 October.

Together with CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), the walk will bring people together to show their support for the recognising of mental health and promote the help that’s available.

It is hoped the walk will also support CALM with their vital work in offering suicide support around the clock. Last year, funding helped their team to answer 31,000 calls.

Ongo colleagues will be on hand to chat about the support they offer, from counselling and confidence boosting courses, to free training and employment support.

Humberside Fire and Rescue and other partner agencies will also be in attendance.

Emma Mcleary, Mental Health Specialist at Ongo said: “With no set distance, people can walk as little or as far as they would like; a member of the team will be on hand to walk with you.

“Just by being there you’ll be helping to show your support for some of the issues that many of us have experienced, either personally or through friends and family.”

Date: Wednesday 18 October
Time: 10:30am – 12:30pm
Location: Ashby Ville car park, Scunthorpe

No registration is needed and everyone is welcome, including children and dogs. The event is free, although an opportunity to donate to CALM is available.

Over the last 12 months the team of six qualified counsellors and 15 student volunteers (in partnership with UCNL), has supported over 250 people.

This walk is just one of the initiatives they offer to encourage people to talk and be understood, to listen, share, and most importantly to belong. others include:

Walking groups

Golf sessions, in partnership with Golf in Society

External trips

Confidence workshops

And when people are ready to take the next step, the team provide coaching, CV building, training (including digitally), and work experience and volunteering opportunities with many organisations, including the NHS.
