Step 4 of Government’s roadmap out of lockdown to be delayed

Step 4 of Government’s roadmap out of lockdown to be delayed

This morning it has been reported across several news sources that current coronavirus rules will remain in place for another four weeks after the planned 21 June unlocking.

Senior ministers have signed off on the decision to delay the lifting of all legal restrictions on social contact. That would mean capacity limits for hospitality, sports and many leisure activities such as cinemas will remain, with the continuation of Covid-19 measures as they are currently in step 3.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due to confirm the delay later at a news conference.

Stage four of the government’s roadmap out of lockdown would see all legal limits on social contact removed, with venues and events operating without capacity limits and the cap on guests at weddings lifted. All remaining businesses will be reopened including nightclubs and large events such as concerts and theatre performances would go ahead.

Even if these restrictions are removed, rules on face coverings and social distancing could remain in place.
