Ongo lead in digital accessibility

Ongo has been ranked within the top five ‘UK Housing Authority websites for accessibility’, according to Silktide Index.

Silktide analyses millions of websites each year and provides tools to help organisations optimise their platforms. Their mission is to make the web a better place by creating technologies and by educating people on how to make better and more accessible websites.

Ongo has been given an overall score of 90 out of 100, which means excellent. Their content has been ranked 83, marketing 91, accessibility 85 and user experience 71. These are above average scores.

Web Accessibility is the inclusive practice of making websites usable by people of all abilities and disabilities. When a site or app is correctly designed, developed and edited, all users can have equal access to information and functionality.

Chloe Sanderson, Business Analyst at Ongo said: “We completed development work to our website early in 2022, helping us to get into the top 30 list. This was a huge achievement in itself, so to be ranked fifth is just fantastic.

“The importance of accessibility goes beyond legal regulations, it enables more people to easily access services online and that is a huge focus for us.

“We use software to help us scan the website for improvements, including screen reader and disability simulators to understand how others may interpret information and have also been working with our fantastic digital tenant representatives too.

“We are all so proud of how far we’ve come and are committed to continuing this as we develop and grow.”

Ongo are set to launch even more accessibility tools on their websites, and are making plans to increase their user experience score, with a focus on mobile optimisation in the coming months.

Within the top five housing authority websites are First Priority Housing Association Ltd, Trinity Homes, Thames Ditton Homes Ltd and Sovereign Housing Association Ltd.
