Ongo is supporting LGBT+ month

As part of national LGBT+ history month, staff and tenants at Ongo are leading on a campaign throughout the whole of February.

The month was created to promote equality and diversity for the benefit of the public. It aims to increase the visibility of members of the LGBT+ community, make educational and other institutions safe spaces and ensure that we enable LGBT+ people to achieve their full potential.

Ongo’s plans for the month include fun activities, blog posts from staff and tenants explaining what the subject means to them, videos, a timeline of important events and awareness presentations.

Tim Mills, Tenant Board Member at Ongo said: “This is one of many equality, diversity and inclusion campaigns we’ll be taking part in this year, and is one I’m very proud to be a part of.

“As a member of the LGBT+ community myself, it’s massively important to me that we continue to raise awareness and share our support as much as possible.”

When asked about his experiences, Aaron Simpson-King, Customer Experience Team Leader at Ongo said: “Having been born and growing up in an era where it was illegal to be gay, it’s been amazing to see the leaps and bounds the LGBT+ community has taken in advancement of our rights and acceptance.

“We still have a long way to go and through being visible and continuing to push for equality we will one day reach the goal.

“Although I am a gay man, being a gay man isn’t my defining characteristic, for all of who know me I am just Aaron.

“We need to learn and accept the small factors of sexuality and gender and just love a person for their wholeness and uniqueness.”

Ongo has a calendar of EDI events for 2022, with campaigns for the whole community to get involved in. To find out more about Ongo, or for information on their commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, follow them on social media or go to: www.ongo.co.uk/edi.
