Read MoreJewson Partnership Solutions (JPS) and Ongo, is proud to launch a week-long bootcamp designed to empower Ongo tenants, customers, and community members with practical skills, confidence, and career support.
Running from Monday 29 September to Friday 3 October, the bootcamp took place across two key locations in Scunthorpe – JPS at Parkway Business Park and The Arc Community Centre in Westcliff.
Five customers, who are engaging with Ongo’s Skills and Personal Development Team, were selected to take part.
The initiative is part of Jewson’s commitment to giving back to the communities they serve and aligns with Ongo’s mission to deliver meaningful social value through partnerships with contractors and suppliers.
“This bootcamp is a fantastic example of how our partners can make a real difference,” said Emma Patrick, Social Value Specialist at Ongo. “It’s not just about employment, it’s about building confidence, breaking down barriers, and showing people what’s possible.”
Bootcamp highlights:
Day 1: Introduction to JPS – A behind the scenes look at the business, team-building activities, and hands-on shadowing.
Day 2: Supply chain insight – Learn how suppliers and logistics work together to power the industry.
Day 3: Work experience – Deeper shadowing, career stories, and access to free digital training.
Day 4: Skills4Life – A motivational session tackling employment barriers, CV writing, and interview tips.
Day 5: Feedback and future planning – A celebration of achievements, personalised career advice, and goody bags for all participants.
The programme is designed to be interactive, engaging, and supportive, offering a unique opportunity for participants to explore career paths, gain real world experience, and build valuable connections.
This initiative is part of Ongo’s wider Social Value Strategy, which ensures that every contractor and supplier contributes positively to the communities they work in. From employment and training to wellbeing and community investment, Ongo’s partnerships are built on shared values and a commitment to creating lasting impact.
Ben, one of the participants, said: “The course has been really good. The CV and interview workshop gave me loads of useful tips, and I feel much more confident going into interviews now.
“I’ve also been given advice and guidance on college courses and future opportunities, which makes me feel more ready to get back into work.”
Sam shared his experience: “I’ve gained a much better understanding of how operations work, especially thanks to the hands-on day. Seeing everything in action really helped me connect the dots and understand the industry better.”
Lisa Greenhalgh, Social Value Lead at JPS said: “We are delighted to be working with Ongo to provide first-hand experience and knowledge of the world of work to unemployed residents in Scunthorpe.
“We want to provide more than a one-off interaction, so we created a week-long bootcamp. We will work with residents across the week to give them an insight into our industry and allow them to explore their options, reduce barriers to employment and gain new skills and confidence in themselves.”
Participants from the course will continue working with Ongo’s Skills and Personal Development Team to access more training, placement or job opportunities.
