Local Police and landlord team up for community games

On Thursday 21 July Ongo, who have over 10,000 homes, and Lincolnshire Police force challenged locals to a huge game of cricket at Allenby Close, Lincoln.

Over 25 people attended with many praising efforts of the agencies.

Refreshments to keep cool, bicycle marking kits and jenga were all part of the activities. The aim was to build relationships with residents and tackle recent reports of anti-social behaviour in the area.

Danny, who is a local resident, commented: “We need more of this, the kids enjoyed playing jenga, drawing with chalk on the pavement and playing cricket and other sports too.

“Overall, it was a good afternoon and it’s great to see everyone getting on as a community.”

Ongo purchased a total of 111 homes on the estate last year, joining their affordable rent, shared ownership and leaseholder offer.

Emma Newlove, Tenancy Officer at Ongo said: “Allenby Close is a great place to live and the people there are even better, there’s a great community spirit.

“It’s fantastic for us to build relationships and bring people together so that if there are any issues in the community, we can have a friendly and open conversation.

“Today’s games have been enjoyed by all, so I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved.”

Following the success of the event it is hoped an annual challenge will take place.

PC Kat Braithwaite from Lincolnshire Police said: “It was a brilliant event tonight and it was so good to see the community come together with ourselves and Ongo to do something positive.

“It was also a fabulous opportunity to engage the young people and parents in a bit of fun, whilst discussing local issues to build a safer, stronger community.”
