Imps launch numeracy scheme

The Foundation have launched an innovative new course to help people improve their daily understanding of maths through football as part of the fully funded national Multiply initiative.

The free course, which kicks off in December, will help participants increase their basic numeracy skills to support them in their daily lives and help broaden their employment prospects.

Alex Bavin, director of quality & development at the Foundation, said: “We’re very excited to be able to roll out this project to help support residents in Lincoln to improve their skills in numeracy.

“We know learning maths can seem daunting especially if as a child your experience wasn’t a positive one. As a football club we have a unique way to engage with people and want to bring a different approach to learning which is fun and practical.

“Sessions will be related to football but incorporate everyday activities so people can feel confident going about their daily lives.”

In addition to this course, the Foundation will work with local employers to help their staff develop their numeracy skills and it will also form part of our English for Speakers of Other Languages provision.

The sessions are being run by the Foundation, the charitable arm of Lincoln City Football Club, funded by Multiply in partnership with Lincolnshire County Council to support people aged 19 and over who don’t have maths GCSE at grade C or equivalent.
