International Trade & Research – MODULE 1

This module explores the history and evolution of international trade, from the Silk Road and spice routes to modern-day digital commerce and global supply chains. Learners will understand how trade systems have developed across centuries and how political, economic, and technological changes have shaped global trade. The module also introduces key research techniques to evaluate current and future market opportunities.

Learning Objectives:
• Trace the historical development of international trade across different eras and regions
• Recognise the impact of key events such as colonialism, industrialisation, globalisation, and digital transformation on trade
• Understand the role of trade agreements, tariffs, and institutions in shaping trade flows
• Apply basic research methods to assess international markets
• Identify trends, risks, and opportunities in current global trade sectors
• Combine historical context with modern strategy to support international business planning

International Trade Education Programme

This workshop is part of the International Trade Education Programme, delivered in partnership with Export Unlocked. The programme, designed to support businesses engaged in global trade by providing the knowledge and skills needed to succeed internationally.
Workshops can be taken individually or as part of a broader qualification, with two qualification  options available.
