EU Trade Support Programme

Since the UK’s separation from the EU became a reality on 1 January 2021, businesses have faced many challenges and frustrations in trying to move goods across the borders.

Have you encountered hurdles that can be overcome, or situations seemingly beyond your control?

In this four half day development programme we will look at the key issues – both resolved and ongoing – that are being faced, and how these can be addressed.

This programme covers the following days:

Tuesday 27th April, 9:00am – 12:00pm
Monday 10th May, 9:00am – 12:00pm
Wednesday 19th May, 9:00am – 12:00pm
Tuesday 8th June , 9:00am – 12:00pm

New rules for UK-EU Trade
27th April 2021, 9:00am – 12:00pm

Following the UK’s official separation from the EU, both parties are now trading under the terms of the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement.

In this session we will explore how legal responsibilities have changed and key information you need to understand to keep goods moving and ensure you are HMRC compliant.

Understanding Origin and the Importance of HS Codes
10 May 2021, 9.00am – 12.00pm

Whenever we import goods it is usually on the basis of cost. This cost will, in the main, be driven by the UK having done a Trade Deal with the country we are importing from. Such deals agree that import duty will be lower for that country’s goods than from anywhere else.

When we export our goods, we frequently are asked to provide certificates which guarantee the origin of our goods so that our customers may import them ‘duty -free’ or at a very reduced rate. This is usually again the result of a Trade Deal.

But because the reduced rate of Duty means less cash for the government involved, certificates proving genuine origin will be subject to rigorous inspection. Therefore, we need to issue those certificates with absolute confidence.

Customs Special and Other Procedures
19 May 2021, 9.00am – 12.00pm

Customs Special procedures provide your business a great opportunity to avoid the cost of additional import duties by allowing you to store, temporarily use, process or repair your goods and suspend or get partial or full relief from import duty.

They may also be able to assist your customers and suppliers in the EU save money and avoid the cost of the “ double hit” of having to pay both UK and EU duties HMRC have made applications for Special Procedures easier and quicker and have removed the need for a financial guarantee in most cases.

Customs Declaration Training
8 June 2021, 9.00am – 12.00pm

The UK has now left the EU – you will need to know how to meet customs requirements fast and efficiently.

Gain the knowledge to accurately produce a customs declaration or check one which is being produced for your company by a Customs Agent.

Who Should Attend?

This programme is suitable for companies exporting and importing products to and from EU and other overseas markets – whether new to the process or simply wanting to update their knowledge.

Everyone within an organisation is involved in some way, however those staff who have a greater responsibility for sales, purchasing, shipping and maintaining appropriate export/import records will benefit the most from participation.

One to One Support

In addition to the group training sessions, you will have access to a maximum of eight hours one to one support matched to your specific needs, building on your learning experience on each session.

Training Grant

The SME Brexit Support Fund could give you up to £2,000 to help with this training or professional advice, if your business has up to 500 employees and no more than £100 million annual turnover.

You can use the grant for training on:

– how to complete customs declarations
– how to manage customs processes and use customs software and systems
– specific import and export related aspects including VAT, excise and rules of origin

It can be used to help you get professional advice so your business can meet its customs, excise, import VAT or safety and security declaration requirements.

Apply for the grant

Please note this event is organised by East Midlands Chamber of Commerce, who will be hosting the event and will be in touch with joining information.
