Bringing residents of Myos House together this Christmas

Bringing residents of Myos House together this Christmas

Residents at Ongo’s dementia care scheme, Myos House, enjoyed an afternoon of festive fun at their Christmas party on Thursday 18 December.

The celebration included a meal with dessert, a carol performance that had residents singing and dancing along, fun games and even a photo booth to capture the memories.

Myos House, which recently celebrated its fourth anniversary, continues to provide not only care but a strong sense of community for its residents.

According to Age UK, more than 1.4 million older people often feel lonely, and the festive season can make this even harder. That’s why creating opportunities to connect, like this event, is so important.

For those who will be alone on Christmas Day, colleagues from Ongo and North Lincolnshire Council will prepare a special dinner to make sure no one misses out on the joy of the season.

Pat, who moved into Myos House eight months ago with her husband, shared her thoughts on the day: “We love it here and are so happy. It’s nice to get involved in the things they put on. Spending time with everyone and enjoying the carol singing was lovely. I’m definitely feeling festive now!”

Stephen, another resident, said: “When I first moved in, it felt strange because I was used to my own house, but this really is a welcoming and nice place to live with wonderful people and carers. I really enjoyed myself this afternoon, I’m generally a quiet person but it’s been good seeing people and socialising.

“There’s always something going on. The other week we even had a lady come in with a guitar and do a show, which was brilliant. I’ll be spending Christmas with my family, and this has been a lovely way to start the celebrations.”
