Bransby Horses record song to support equine welfare

Vocal enthusiasts from Bransby Horses have teamed up with Lincolnshire Vocal Academy (LVA) and pupils from Partney Church of England Primary School on the Bransby Big Sing Project during Lockdown 3.0.

The song launched this week with 20 performers, voluntary producers, one amazing video and a lot of hard work, dedication and love; Bransby Horses are hopeful it will speak to many people, whilst aiming to raise awareness of their rescue and welfare work.

It was just another lockdown evening in February 2021 when a group of vocalists met with some volunteers from Bransby Horses on Zoom to begin a project that would result in a powerful and emotive performance.

Tara Stafford-Allen, External Welfare Officer at Bransby Horses and Musical Director at LVA led the Bransby Big Sing Project, arranging the collaboration between the three organisations and leading the warm ups and introductions. At the very first meeting, Tara introduced the song the group would be learning – You Will Be Found from smash Broadway musical, Dear Evan Hansen.

Tara said, “We chose ‘You Will Be Found’ because of the emotional lyrics written by The Greatest Showman composers and Oscar winners, Pasek & Paul, which relates to the hundreds of desperate horses, ponies, donkeys and mules that we investigate and rescue every year.”

The whole project was done remotely, with Tara organising singing lessons and classes via Zoom and Facebook, recording and mixing, as well as a video to accompany the song.

Tara continued, “My role as External Welfare Officer is to respond to public concerns about equines reported to be suffering neglect, mistreatment or abandonment – they think they’re alone, sometimes they’ve given up, and are in need of a lot of TLC. The song seemed to echo this and describe how the horses must be feeling.

“We’re so grateful to be able to have the rights to use the song to promote the rescue and welfare work we do at Bransby Horses over the summer months.”

Partnering with members of Lincolnshire Vocal Academy and pupils from Partney Church of England Primary School brought a sense of community to the project during a time when many felt disconnected for the third time within 12 months.

Mrs Sue Kay, Head Teacher, said, “It is wonderful to see our Partney children using their talents to support Bransby Horses. This inspirational song and video gives us all hope in humanity to love and care for all of God’s creatures.  What better example could we give our children, than that of the dedicated staff who rescue the horses and work tirelessly to give them a better life.”

It is hoped the resulting video will raise awareness of the importance of equine welfare and the issues that we see, as reported in 2020 by multiple equine welfare charities in their joint Britain’s Horse Problem report.

Those wishing to show support of this project can make a small donation towards Bransby Horses’ welfare and rescue efforts and by sharing the video to raise awareness, which is available below and at BransbyHorses.co.uk/Bransby-big-sing
