Myos House residents raise funds to get their garden summer ready

Residents at Myos House in Scunthorpe have raised thousands of pounds to improve their garden, ready for summer.

Myos House is specifically designed for people living with dementia. It has 25 apartments and provides supported and independent living, along with social activities and communal spaces.

There is also a large garden area with seating, planters and space for outdoor activities. However, having no shade meant that not all residents could enjoy the garden for long periods of time.

That’s when they came together to raise money for a pergola.

Eileen Salmon, who lives at Myos House said: “We have lovely gardens, but we’re missing shelter, which is so important for when we want to spend time outdoors.

“The pergola has been a great addition to the garden, it looks fantastic and is a much-needed haven for us when we want to be outside this summer.”

Ongo’s Neighbourhood Services team built the pergola earlier this month, creating a great space for residents to enjoy.

Stephen Gilmour, Neighbourhood Services Operative at Ongo said: “It’s been a great project to be involved in and very worthwhile for all the residents.”

Denise Ford, Dementia Scheme Officer, played a huge part in these fundraising efforts.

Sadly in 2023 Denise passed away. She will be sadly missed by all those she worked with and cared for at Myos House. As a special tribute, a commemorative plaque has been added to remember her and the amazing work she did.

An official opening was held on 7 June with residents, their families and Ongo colleagues.
