Progress on Scunthorpe dementia scheme

Work is on track at the region’s first of its kind, dementia care scheme on Warwick Road in Scunthorpe, with the building now fully watertight.

Costing in the region of £4.4m, Myos House comprises of 25 two-bedroom apartments and specially designed communal spaces for residents to socialise and relax.

Internal design and dementia friendly layouts are currently being decided upon, to comply with the Housing our Ageing Population Panel for Innovation (HAPPI) principles.  There will also be thought out features including safe and secure landscaped gardens, CCTV and staff on hand 24 hours a day.

Georgie McGuire, Ongo’s Development Project Manager on the scheme commented: “I’m very pleased to say we’re still meeting our timescales on this much needed development, despite barriers put in place this year.

“It is one of the proudest and most important build projects I’ve been a part of. It will make a huge difference to people living with a dementia diagnosis and their families, allowing them to live together for as long as possible instead of moving into residential care.

“Providing specialist housing is a huge focus of ours, with more to be delivered in the next few years, so keep checking our website for updates.”

Funding for this scheme has been provided by Ongo, Homes England and North Lincolnshire Council, with G.S Kelsey appointed as the lead contractors.

The building is due for completion in May next year, with an opening event to be planned if restrictions allow.

A visual tour is available on the website, along with an application form to register your interest. To find out more, go to: www.ongo.co.uk/myoshouse.
