82% of UK managers pose a huge risk to business owners

The Chartered Management Institute claim that 82% of UK managers are ‘accidental managers’ who have received little to no formal management training. This poses huge risks for business owners.

“You know what they say… people don’t leave bad jobs; they leave bad managers”, says Laura Reilly owner of Taurus HR Solutions.

“Managing people is a complex task. There isn’t an instruction manual and there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

“Yet, we still expect our managers, often promoted through tenure and technical competence, to learn on the job and develop their skills by practising, in real-time, on our people – our greatest asset.

“It’s great that people get to learn by doing but getting it wrong can have dire consequences for your business, the bottom line and your competitive advantage” says Laura.

Bad managers can pose huge risks to business owners, including employee retention, reduced engagement and productivity, and legal risks.

That’s why Laura recommends that business owners invest in management training this year.

“Management training gives your managers the skills they need to actually manage your people and to become inspiring leaders.

“Investing in your managers is worth every penny. You’ll keep people for longer, your culture will improve, your team will be happier, and they’ll be more productive as a result.”
