South Holland District Council is based in Spalding. It was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, as a merger of the Spalding urban district with East Elloe Rural District and Spalding Rural District. All these were previously in the administrative county of Holland.

Street Care & Cleansing - The Council is responsible for the sweeping and removal of litter from public highways and areas of land under its responsibility

Grounds Maintenance - The Council undertakes landscaping in parks and open spaces, including routine cutting of grass in urban areas together with tree and hedge pruning and shrub and rose bed maintenance. Please note that highway grass verges alongside adopted roads and footpaths are the responsibility of Lincolnshire County Council Highways.

Markets - Towns grew up around the site of regular markets. Many of today's thriving communities owe their existence to the market in their midst. Markets in South Holland are held in Spalding, Crowland, Holbeach and Long Sutton.

Parking - Charges for South Holland District Council car parks apply Monday to Saturday from 8.00am to 6.00pm (unless otherwise stated).

Your Environment - Environmental Health services are provided by Environmental Protection team and Food and Health & Safety team. The Health and Safety Unit within the Council carries out regular checks on offices, shops, warehouses, places used for leisure activities and other non-industrial premises.
