Events & News News All News LORIC supports local small businesses with free events and workshops The Lincolnshire Open Research and Innovation Centre (LORIC), which opened its doors to businesses last September, will be hosting a number of fully funded specialist workshops and ‘data clinics’ this Spring to help businesses use data to innovate and grow. The facility, based on Newport in Lincoln, offers a unique and specialist service to businesses including support to understand and use data in their business, and access publicly available data to help them develop or improve a product or service. LORIC’s regular ‘Data Clinics’ which aim to teach Lincolnshire businesses how they can use the data they collect effectively and efficiently to help grow their business is already proving popular. As an entry-level event, no computer experience is required to take part and attendees will get the chance to learn how to read data and understand the technical vocabulary to allow them to adapt their business plan. There are also various “Data Discovery” days available, bringing together businesses to collaborate on findings and share crucial data. Businesses in attendance are taught how to identify what data is needed and how to access and use it effectively. Chris Bridle, Project Manager at LORIC said: “Data’s potential in business just keeps growing. Taking full advantage means companies must incorporate analytics into their vision and use it to make better, faster decisions. Our events programme and package of support for businesses helps them to understand and use data to innovate and grow their businesses – it really is a unique offer here in Lincolnshire and we encourage businesses to get in touch with us, join in and see just how valuable this facility could be for their business”. Since attending LORIC events and accessing support through the programme, Lincoln based business TigTag, who develop wearable technology, has gone from strength to strength. LORIC helped TigTag to assess their data needs and bring a prototype of their device to the market. Michael Jacob, founder of TigTag, said “Without the help of the LORIC team, we would have stalled. I was at the limit of my knowledge, skills and experience, and that’s what they provided - the next step.” You can find out the latest events available on the LORIC events calendar by visiting https://www.bishopg.ac.uk/loric-events/.
