Meet the Buyer - 10th June 2010 - Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry, UK

The Training in Public Procurement’s free ‘Meet the Buyer 2010’ event took place at The University of Lincoln’s Riseholme Campus on Thursday June 10^th, attracting over 150 businesses. The event, split into two repeated half day sessions, provided local businesses with a unique opportunity to meet and network with Lincolnshire’s major public sector buyers responsible for spending c.£750m on goods and services every year.

The event was formerly launched by the Right Reverend Dr John Saxbee, Bishop of Lincoln, who provided the audience with his amusing and insightful perspective on procurement and local sourcing. This was followed by presentations from Lincolnshire Procurement, The Ministry of Defence, The Procurement Alliance of North and North East Lincolnshire (PANNEL) and The University of Lincoln, all aimed at de-mystifying the public sector procurement process and providing businesses with the tips and tools required for winning public sector contracts in the future. Delegates also took advantage of extended networking sessions with the Lincolnshire’s key public sector buyers. Among those public bodies attending are, Procurement Lincolnshire (representing the eight Lincolnshire local authorities), ESPO, The Ministry of Defence, The Police, Fire Service, NHS,  PANNEL. and the University of Lincoln

Business feedback was overwhelmingly positive and most attendees indicated that they were ‘very satisfied’ with the event. One attendee said, "The event was very helpful and most informative." James Makinson-Sanders (TIPPs Steering Group Member) stated, "Critically, the event was really well received by businesses. Over the past few years we have evolved the event in an attempt to provide maximum value for the attending businesses ensuring that all the information we provide improves local businesses' ability to compete for public sector contracts. Most importantly, the event is structured so that businesses get the maximum possible time to spend discussing opportunities directly with public sector buyers."

Now in its third year, the event attracts a diversity of businesses from all over the county, many of which go on to attend the more detailed free training workshops aimed at helping local businesses compete effectively for public sector contracts. Over the last three years nearly 1,000 Lincolnshire businesses have benefitted from attending TIPPs procurement training sessions and the next round of training events will take place in October 2010 across Lincolnshire.
