Survey highlights positives and challenges for Lincoln

A survey of life in Lincoln shows that local residents are generally happy with their quality of life, but that the council and its partners still have many social and economic challenges ahead.

The government initiated ‘Place Survey’ aims to find out what people think about their local area, and whether they are happy with their quality of life.   The survey was based on a simple questionnaire covering issues such as access to decent and affordable housing, suitable amenities for young people, parks and open spaces for recreation and shopping facilities.

One of the key findings of the survey is that of the 1,738 residents surveyed in Lincoln, over 70 per cent feel they are treated well by their local public services.  Around 84 per cent of people living in Lincoln are satisfied with their home and 78 per cent are ‘generally satisfied’ with their local area.

However, as expected for Lincolnshire’s largest urban area, the perception of anti-social and rowdy behaviour is higher than the county average.  Twenty one per cent of people felt anti-social behaviour was an issue.

John Latham, Director of Development and Environmental Services for the City of Lincoln Council, said:

These results present an interesting challenge for the council and its partners. They give us a real insight into the issues that most concern our residents and we can use the information to target those communities where specific issues have been highlighted as a concern.

We have a good track record of working closely with our partners to tackle issues such as the health, crime and social challenges we face as an evolving city.  I believe these results underline the need for us to develop those partnerships further to improve the quality of life for our residents.  We know they are proud of their city and we will work hard to make them even prouder.
