Lincolnshire based chartered accountants Nicholsons have completed the gruelling Pennine Challenge by walking 60 miles along the Pennines in just 24 hours to raise money for two local charities. The Nicholsons representatives formed a ‘challenge’ team; their aim was to walk the full 60 miles, rather than completing the walk as a relay.
The walk on the Pennines began at Edale and ended at Cowling, crossing the M62 and taking in more picturesque points such as
The team of 10 comprised of seven walkers and three support team members, who were responsible for meeting the walkers at designated points to provide them with much needed sustenance – in the form of food and hot drinks.
As the Challenge involves walking solidly for 24 hours across 60 miles, the drop out rate is quite high. Three of the Nicholsons walkers - Richard Grayson, Craig Delahoy and Steph Danby crossed the finish line, with Steph being one of very few women to ever have completed the full Challenge.
Marketing Co-ordinator at Nicholsons, Jeannine Thornley was a support team member. “The walkers had to travel as light as possible,” she said, “our role was to meet the team at the various designated points en-route to ensure they had essentials such as water, torches, additional layers and waterproofs to name but a few . This proved to be a challenge in itself as locating very remote places in the middle of the night is not as easy as it sounds! It was a tough, but enjoyable event for the whole team, but now we’ve all had a little time to recover, and the sponsorship money is coming in, it was definitely worthwhile and a fantastic achievement.”
