A certificate of Origin is a document that states the origin of the goods, which are being transported overseas. Without such as document, many countrues will not allow import Customs procedures to take place. In some cases they will trigger a specially reduced rate of duty or even duty free entry.
Many Letters of Credit call for the presentation to the bank of Certificates of Origin along with other docuements.
As already mentioned , Certificates of Origin are usually required for Customs entry purposes, and without the relevant Certificates of Origin the exporter's goods may not be allowed to enter the country of destination.
When payment for the exporter's goods is made by Letter of Credit or by documentary collection, customres and banks place more reliance on certified declarations of origin as an independant, impartial and recognised body authenticates the genuineness.
There are cases where a Certificate of Origin is not required for customs clearance or for payment reasons, but simply becuase the overseas customer is buying goods with a view to re-exporting them at a future date. He would then need to hold evidence of the origin of the goods to enable him to riase his own documents for that export.
Certificates of Origin and all other documents requiring certification which are used in trade with the Arab Leagues countries must have the certification done by the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce, the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce is an approved agent for certification.
A special Arab-British Chamber Certificate of Origin must be used (and not the EC form and this can be obtained from the Lincolnshire Chamber.

Bills are issued in signed sets, called originals. All the originals are described as a full set. Any one may be used to prove right of posession to the named goods and so secure their release from the Carrier at the destination Port. They are usually sent individually to the Consignee or his bank in separate airmails to ensure the safe arrival of at least one. Bills can be endorsed to the holders.
The Air Waybill is an Air Freight consignment note. It acts as a receipt for the goods and is evidence of the contract between the seller and the carrier. It accompanies the consignment allowing fast clearance on arrival at the destination airport. Prepared by the Airline and made out by consignor or agent, required to act as a receipt for goods, a contract of carriage and a delivery note.

e-Cert is an online service delivered by the British Chambers of Commerce network allowing export companies to apply electronically for EC and Arab Certificates of Origin, EUR1 and ATR movement documents.
Not only can exporters apply online, but with e-Cert eXpress, documents can be checked, approved, stampted by Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce and returned to the exporter electronically.
