Annual Banquet Cheque Presentation
Lincolnshire Chamber’s Lincoln Area President, Hugh Wykes, and Events Coordinator Charlotte Robson presented St Barnabas’ Hospice Fundraising Manager, Kim Frow, with the money raised from the Annual Charity Banquet - £1375! Thank you again to everyone who helped us to raise this money on a fabulous evening.
"St Barnabas are very grateful to the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce for their support, and it is important to stress that we can only continue to provide our current hospice services with organisations like theirs supporting us," says Kim. “I am glad I was able to show representatives from the Chamber of Commerce around our Lincoln Day Hospice so that they could see where the money they raised is being spent - thank you so much, your donation means a lot to us."

Branston Community College Goodie Bags Request
Branston Community College are part of the Young Chamber initiative, and they’d like to get some gifts to put into 100 goodie bags at the school fete they are organising. Ideally they’d like a contact in retail or someone who has access to corporate goodies with branding on so they see it as a form of promotion; for example calculators, small goods, food, pens, games with or without company branding. They are required for late June. If you can help with this, please

European House of Arts (UK) Cultural Festival
The Lincolnshire Chamber is pleased to bring to our members’ attention that the European House Of Arts (UK) is organising a Cultural Festival in June 18th & 19th this year, which is based around a “Cultural Trail”, visiting Lincoln after several festival dates around Europe. The Trail is made up of around 18 Artists, Musicians from around Europe, Irish dancers, an Author, a Renaissance Musician, Sculptors etc. This is a unique occasion and one which is set to create a sustainable and growing annual festival in the city and county. Something like this has never been done before and Lincoln is the only city in the UK playing host to this remarkable group of people.
The main hub of the Festival is based at the University of Lincoln, LPAC and Engine Shed, also in the city centre, St Swithin’s Church and Castle Square. The festival is attracting a huge response from our local community; artists, musicians, community groups, dancers, poets, authors, food specialists, theatre companies, schools and much more, are all stepping up and joining us for the two days to work together, play, perform, discuss, eat, drink and enjoy. With the publicity so far from the BBC TV and radio and the big publicity push to come we expect large numbers to visit, partake in the activities and enjoy what’s on offer.
This could also be a huge boost to tourism and will benefit the local community and businesses greatly. However, so far, funding targets aren't as expected, and so we are looking to the local business community to help by following in the footsteps of the University, Lincoln BIG, The Lincoln Hotel and others to assist in making this a massive success. The result will be a major coup for Lincoln and will assist local businesses with the increased visitor levels over this period.
Funds still need to be raised to pay expenses, nominal fees and food for all our Trail Participants whilst in the UK and our local participants (bands, musicians, entertainers and so on) as without these people with us there will be no festival! Please click here for the web site for all the festival information, what’s on and more. Please click here for the sponsorship document, if you can help at all. Thank you very much.

Burdens Barometer
The 2010 edition of the British Chambers of Commerce’s ‘Burdens Barometer’ shows that the cumulative cost to businesses in the East Midlands of new regulation since 1998 has risen to £5.9billion. Of the 40 new laws, the most costly include:
Simon Beardsley, Chief Executive of Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce, said, “The Burdens Barometer highlights a clear problem for Lincolnshire and UK business. The cost of dealing and complying with new laws and regulations over the last 12 years has been far too high.
“During this critical time for the economy, we need businesses to be driving recovery and creating jobs. But, the government must play its part by putting the brakes on the relentless flow of red tape.
“Tuesday’s Queen’s Speech is the perfect opportunity for the new government to prove its commitment to job creation and a better business environment by repealing regulations where it’s clear the costs outweigh the benefits to the economy and society.
“There needs to be an urgent and sweeping review of all regulations that incur costs for business, and importantly, a moratorium on new employment laws until at least 2014.”
