Lincolnshire Chamber’s Facebook Page Click here to like and follow the Lincolnshire Chamber on Facebook. BBC2 Programme - The British at Work BBC2 are working on a series called The British at Work. They are very keen to collect personal stories about working experiences to chart how these have changed either through different expectations or through wider economic changes. The series looks at how our relationship with work and the workplace has changed since 1945. The style of the series is social history told through personal recollection, anecdote and memoir to create a rich picture of what work was like over the past 60+ years. They are following various themes throughout the series: changes in office technology, the rise of the managers, the role of women in the workforce and the rise and fall of union power, and are looking specifically for people who began work in the 1940s and 1950s.

They would like to hear from anyone with recollections of working in industries that became nationalised, or what factory life was like then, or if there were perks laid on by employers like leisure facilities or a work day out.
Contact them if you are a woman who wanted to carry on working once married with children, or who did but faced social stigma from doing so. They would also like to hear from women who pursued a career or from any women who became the sole bread winner in their home.
They are looking for people who worked in offices or the service sector who can tell them how things have changed. They are also looking for people who began working in the 1980s and 1990s – for people who worked in manufacturing as the sector declined, politically active workers and anyone who might have been involved in strike action in the 1980s and 1990s.
They are also looking for anyone who set up their own business to tell them how they weathered the booms and busts of the past 20-30 years.
If you are able to help, please click here to email Celine Fitzmaurice at the BBC for more information.
