Monthly Business Survey

Following recent official data on unemployment levels and GDP growth, themes in this month’s questions relate to the labour market and the state of the economy. The survey has proven to be a very effective source of information and we’d like this to continue in 2010, so please do take part. There are twelve questions and it will only take 2-3 minutes to respond. Click here to complete the survey.

BCC Annual Convention

10th March 2010

This year’s BCC Annual Conference, “Preparing for Change”, will be a radical departure from the usual format. It will be the last premier league business conference before the general election – and that means we have a unique opportunity to get our policies across to the top levels of all three main political parties. There will also be the launch of BCC TV℠ - a new web video coverage of the proceedings, live and direct from the British Academy of Film & Television Arts (BAFTA) in central London.

This is available to all Chamber members throughout the world, for just £30. For more information and to book your place, please click here.

Non-Executive Directors Wanted

The Lincolnshire Sports Partnership is looking for four Non-Executive Directors to enhance the current board and be part of the continued development of sport throughout the County. You will contribute to the decision and policy making process and be part of specialist sub-groups. We are especially looking for people with excellent experience within the areas of education, marketing/media, legal and sport. Currently, the board meet 5 times per year with the various sub-groups meeting on a similar basis.

We are a ‘not for profit’ organisation with a pending application for charitable status.

If you are interested and would like to discuss the positions informally, please telephone the Chief Executive Office, Steve De Wint, on 01522 585580. Alternatively, you can apply in writing, giving a brief description of experience and/or Curriculum Vitae to: Barrie Pierpoint, Chairman, Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, Unit 9 Allenby Business Village, Crofton Road, Lincoln, LN3 4NL or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to send it via email.

Sport Relief

As one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events, Sport Relief brings the entire nation together to get active, raise cash and change lives. The Sport Relief Weekend is taking place from Friday 19th March to Sunday 21st March 2010 and it’ll be three whole days of energy, entertainment and events for everyone to enjoy. From the Friday of fundraising fun, and a night of cracking TV on BBC One, right through to the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on Sunday, it promises to be a brilliant weekend. The best bit is that Comic Relief spends all the cash raised to help people living unimaginably tough lives across the UK and the world’s poorest countries. During Sport Relief 2008 we received fantastic support from employees working in over 25,000 organisations across the UK and we’d like to encourage you and your colleagues to do the same for Sport Relief 2010. So be a part of it. Take a break from the 9-5, bring your workmates together and have a laugh as you challenge yourselves to raise loads of cash – all in a day’s work.

Stakeholder Consultation Event on New East Coast Timetable

8th February 2010, 12.15pm - 2.00pm

The Spires Room, The Lincoln Hotel (LN2 4AA)

As you may know, plans for a new train timetable on the East Coast Main Line are being finalised by the rail industry. Due to be delivered in May 2011, it will represent the biggest train timetable change on this route for 20 years. The new timetable will deliver 25 extra weekday services, more seats, faster journeys and a new direct link between Lincoln and London. This will create a bigger and better railway to meet the forecast growth in the number of passengers travelling by train over the next decade.

You are invited to attend one of the stakeholder events listed below to hear more about the new timetable and to share your views. The event will include a presentation from Elaine Holt, Chairman of East Coast, or Karen Boswell, Managing Director, as well as being an opportunity to provide feedback and to ask questions. Light refreshments will be served.

In addition, there will be the opportunity to visit our mobile customer information vehicle as it visits 32 locations across the route. Highlights of the draft timetable can be viewed here. Click here to RSVP confirming you will be attending the Lincoln event.

 A Rural Voice for Lincolnshire

Community Lincs needs help from people in rural communities, people who want their opinions to be heard. This help is needed so that the county-wide charity can argue the case for the delivery of rural services - things like post offices and rural broadband. All too often the only way to tap into public opinion is through long drawn out consultation. Community Lincs wants to change that. It is introducing fast and simple online surveys and wants the Lincolnshire public to take part.

Community Lincs is now creating a database of email addresses of people who want to voice their opinion. People on the database will then receive occasional email links to online surveys about key issues facing Lincolnshire’s rural communities. The intention is to keep the surveys short with no more than ten multi-choice questions. Anyone can participate and there is no obligation to complete a survey.

For each participant Community Lincs will need a name, email address and the name of the parish in which they live. This information will be held in the strictest confidence by Community Lincs and will not be disclosed to any third parties.
