Record numbers are signing up for a series of start-up events across the East Midlands organised by Business Link. 19 people attended the event held at The Boston Enterprise Centre this week to assess if they have just what it takes to start and run their own business.
The event series, entitled Is It For You? will run in 2 bursts across the region, in January and March, at smaller venues to allow for in-depth sessions of Questions and Answers. The first series is already fully booked with some 300 people looking for free advice and information on how to become an East Midlands entrepreneur.
The Is It For You? events are designed to really bring home what it takes to run a business and what free support Business Link can provide to help in that process. Local business owners and advisers are speakers at the events and talk about how they started their businesses and what barriers and hurdles they faced as they worked their way to personal and commercial success.
The event was hosted by Nottinghamshire Business Venture, which provides local access to the regional Business Link Start-Up service. Amanda Huscroft from Nottinghamshire Business Venture explains why these events are so important for the potential start-up candidate: “Good information from a trusted source is so important for anyone considering a new business venture. But providing access to a wider support network and contact with people who have been through the process themselves is absolutely vital. This is about practical resources applied at a local level.
“The format of the Is It for You? events are proving so popular that we might have to review their frequency and scheduling. Certainly, it is clear that individuals are truly looking at starting a new business as an alternative to the bleak economic forecasts presented at the moment.”

The regional Business Link Start-Up Service offers a range of free advice for people starting their own business or those currently running their own business who may need extra help and advice to grow and develop. Once training is completed, people will have access to their own business adviser who can guide them through making the leap into self-employment and will be on hand to advise them through their first year in business. The Business Link Start-Up Service can also offer ongoing one to one business support with access to dedicated advisers.
The Business Link service in the East Midlands is funded by East Midlands Development Agency (emda) and delivered by EMB Ltd.
