Boston Bid Putting Boston On The Map

Led by the Lincolnshire chamber of Commerce and local businesses this is the largest business development operation ever undertaken in Boston. It brings together 500 businesses in a major venture to improve the town. Developing since its launch in March of this year, businesses have been asked what they wanted to do to make Boston a better place. The input from businesses has now been developed into a clear strategy.

With just a few weeks to go to the actual ballot. The vast majority have said – Yes, they like the idea, can see the benefits and believe the time is right to bring a full commercial approach to Boston’s challenges.

The final business plan on which the ballot will be conducted, will be circulated within the next week. Full details will also be published on www.bostonbid.co.uk

The BID (similar to the ones in Lincoln and Sleaford) aims to deliver real measurable improvements over the next 5 years. Already over 70 similar BIDs are in place throughout the UK and another is in the early stages of planning for Spalding.

To be established as an independent company Bostonbid Ltd will deliver real value for money benefits for the businesses of Boston over a 5 year period. With a potential budget of £1.3m to spend, part will come from a 1% levy and the balance from external funding, this is a very attractive proposal and timed well as many organisations start to see the effect of a slow down in many sectors.

Statutory ballot forms will be posted to all businesses involved in early September, to be returned before October 10th to be counted by the Electoral Reform Services.

‘A vote – Yes – will enable Boston businesses desire to drive forward in a commercially organised way to solve the top 6 issues holding back growth’.

‘A vote – No – Would suggest that businesses are satisfied with the current conditions, footfall, the towns appearance, services, reputation and the constraints which the Town now experiences’. Said Roger Bell of the Chamber of Commerce.
